A Pilonidal Sinus is a small tunnel or cavity under the skin, usually found near the tailbone at the top of the buttocks. It can develop when hair and debris get trapped under the skin, leading to infection. This condition often causes pain, swelling, and sometimes pus discharge.

Symptoms:

• Pain or tenderness near the tailbone
• Redness and swelling in the affected area
• Pus or blood discharge from the sinus
• Unpleasant smell from the discharge

Causes:

• Ingrown hairs
• Prolonged sitting
• Friction or pressure on the skin
• Obesity and excessive body hair

Treatment Options:

• Incision and Drainage: The doctor drains the abscess and cleans the area to promote healing.
• Surgical Removal: For recurring cases, surgery may be needed to remove the sinus and prevent further infections.
