Introduction
What is a Fistula in Ano?
A fistula in ano is an abnormal tunnel that forms between the inside of the anus and the skin surrounding the anus. This condition is often the result of an infection that didn’t heal properly.
Symptoms:
- Persistent pain and swelling around the anus
- Discharge of pus or blood from an opening near the anus
- Fever or chills in case of infection
- Difficulty sitting or walking comfortably
Causes:
- Infections, including abscesses
- Crohn’s disease
- Trauma or injury
- Tuberculosis
Treatment:
- Antibiotics to treat infection
- Draining abscesses if present
- Surgery to remove the fistula and promote healing
